Reach Out and Read Florida Events

State Senator Nan Rich visited the Seventh Avenue Family Health Center in Ft. Lauderdale. Sen Rich assisted ROR Florida in securing their first Reading is Fundamental (RIF) grant. This grant provides more than 30,000 books to more than 15,000 low-income children through community-based health clinics in nine Floridacounties.

North Florida Pediatrics in Lake City celebrated their third anniversary with Reach Out and Read on August 12. State Senator Debbie Boyd and Lynn Bannister, Director of Outreach from Sen. Bill Nelson’s office were in attendance. Ms. Bannister read to a group of children. Mayor Stephen M. Witt declared August 12, Reach Out and Read Awareness Day in Lake City. Read the Proclamation North Florida Pediatrics has distributed 10,000 books to their patients in the last three years. Congratulations to Dr. F. Thomas Weber and staff!!

Girl Scout Troop 10385 in Oakland Park selected Reach Out and Read Florida as their troop's first endeavor at community service for this year. The girls' participated in a book drive. They collected books at two local schools. Their troop leader Tara Rhoden said, "It has really helped the girls tap into the importance of community." The books will be distributed at Reach Out and Read locations in the Broward County area for use in waiting rooms.
